ROOMS & THE GRANARY COTTAGE

Named after rivers.
Designed to feel like them.

Seven en suite rooms, each named after a Northumbrian river. A separate cottage next door with its own garden and kitchen. Five-star gold from Visit England and the AA. The food is on the doorstep and the valley is at the window.

Every river in Northumberland has its own character: its pace, its landscape, its particular quality of light. The rooms at The Duke are named for seven of them and designed with that same individuality in mind. No two are quite the same. All are en suite. All are rated five-star gold by Visit England and the AA.

The inn sits at the heart of Newton, in the Tyne Valley, twenty minutes from Hadrian's Wall and an hour from the Northumberland coast. A proper base for the county, and reason enough to visit on its own.

All 7 rooms are en suite. Flat-screen television, tea and coffee, everything you need and nothing you don't. Cots and additional beds are available on request, just let us know when you book.

Named for the quiet river that joins the Tweed near Etal, in one of the most peaceful stretches of the county. A room with that same quality: calm, well-considered, and very comfortable. En suite.

TILL

The Aln runs through the heart of Alnwick before finding the coast at Alnmouth. A room with something of that same sense of occasion. En suite.

ALN

The Rede rises near the Scottish border and runs south through some of the most remote landscape in England. A room for those who come to properly slow down. En suite.

REDE

The Derwent joins the Tyne a few miles east of the valley, flowing through woodland and farmland. A warm, comfortable room that connects with Devil's Water next door for families travelling together. En suite.

DERWENT

The Wansbeck runs east through mid-Northumberland, passing Morpeth before reaching the coast. A room with a distinctly Northumbrian character and all the comfort that should come with it. En suite.

WANSBECK

The Coquet is one of Northumberland's most loved rivers, rising in the Cheviots and reaching the sea at Amble. A room that reflects that journey: varied, considered, and worth the time. En suite.

COQUET

Devil's Water is a small but characterful stream that flows through the wooded valleys of Hexhamshire before joining the Tyne near Corbridge. A twin room, well suited to two people travelling together or to children, and it connects with Derwent next door for a family arrangement. En suite.

DEVIL'S WATER
