The seasons set the menu here.

We work with producers across Northumberland: farmers, growers, and suppliers we know by name, to bring what the valley does best to the table. The result is the kind of food that people plan their weekend around.

The restaurant at The Duke is a proper dining room:

A room with views across the Tyne Valley, tables set for an unhurried evening, and food that earns the drive from wherever you've come from. We have held an AA Rosette for culinary excellence since our refurbishment in 2010, and we have never thought of that as a destination. It is a standard to keep.

We are, at heart, a kitchen that takes its lead from the land around it. Northumberland produces lamb, game, vegetables, and dairy of exceptional quality, and we use them seriously. Our menus change with the seasons, sometimes more quickly than that, when something particularly good arrives at the kitchen door. We always offer vegetarian options, and we accommodate dietary requirements with notice.

“Book a table by the window. Watch the evening settle over the Tyne Valley. Order something you haven't had before. Let the meal take its time.

The Seasonal Kitchen:

The menu is not fixed. What follows is the character of each season's cooking; the ingredients we reach for, the dishes that define the time of year. For today's menu, call us or book via OpenTable.

LOCAL SUPPLIERS

A menu is only as good as the relationships behind it. We have been working with our key suppliers for years; long enough to know when to call them and trust their judgment about what's worth ordering this week. We don't list every supplier because the list changes as things come and go, but the principle doesn't: if we don't know where it came from and roughly who grew it, it doesn't go on the menu.

Meat & game

Northumbrian lamb, beef, and pork from farms in the Tyne Valley. Game from local shoots on the moors above us; grouse, pheasant, partridge, and venison in season.

Fish & seafood

From the Northumberland coast; crab, lobster, and fish when they are good. Landed fresh and on the menu the same day when the season allows it.

Produce & dairy

Vegetables from growers in the valley. Cheeses from Northumbrian producers we have worked with since 2010.
