Corbridge is a pretty village, once a market town that lies four miles east of Hexham on the banks of the River Tyne. Today it has a reputation for excellent shopping with various fashion boutiques lining the main shopping street.

This pleasant green and leafy route follows the former Haltwhistle to Alston railway line. Dilston Castle & Chapel, belonging to the North Pennines Heritage Trust, are situated in the grounds of Dilston College off the B6321/A695 roads between Corbridge and Hexham. The grounds hold a private car park for use of the Historical Sites' visitors.

Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail stretches between Segedenum Roman Fort at Wallsend on Tyne and Bowness-on-Solway on the west coast of Cumbria. The 84 mile trail will take about 7 days to complete. Although the route can accommodate walkers and cyclists, the Northumberland stretch only permits walkers to use the trails designated routes. Cyclists should use nearby roads and bridleways.

The oldest purpose built prison in England, Hexham Old Gaol will give you an insight into crime and punishment in medieval Northumberland. Hexham Old Gaol, which is in the centre of the town, was built between 1330 and 1333 and was used as a prison for almost 500 years. Inside its thick stone walls you'll find interactive displays on archaeology, costumes, armour and textiles.
